‘anthropomorphism’

rip and remaster

this was a 'Rip and Remaster' foundation project, meaning we had to use solely second-hand or recycled objects and fabrics.

my 'Rip and Remaster' project is based around the idea of anthropomorphism: the attribution of human characteristics to objects or animals. Inspired by a local junk shop, I created my character through personifying domestic objects left behind by the deceased, bringing the owners and their items back to life.

Draping my objects on the stand, I created shapes and silhouettes and explored the personality of my objects.

Character and costume design development.

Pattern cutting and solving the structural problems that arrived when I dismantled my umbrella. I resolved to a stretchy hip-belt (this would substitute the umbrella's central pole that held the entire structure together), as well as a wire waistband with beads threaded along it for the upper wires to sit in.

Final character, costume and illustration.

Final costume. Collaboration with photographer Julia Klisiewicz. Costume, styling and editing by me.
